Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is much visited by tourists but not in February when this shot was taken. The idea was to show the isolated position of the castle, surrounded by water, linked to the land by a bridge. Many Scottish Castles are located by the water because this used to be of strategic importance. It allowed the control of over the sea passages when travel by sea was the only way to get around the Highlands. Roads were almost non-existant and travel overland was difficult and slow.
